Emotional Coaching for Surrogate Mothers

About Emotional Coaching for Surrogate Mothers

“Emotional Coaching for Surrogate Mothers”
Emotional Coaching & Postpartum Support for Surrogate Mothers
By Ajai Craig, MFT (Under Supervision), Former Surrogate Mother of Twins
Surrogacy is a beautiful, life-changing gift—yet it can also bring emotional moments that are rarely talked about. As a former surrogate myself, I understand firsthand how complex, emotional, and deeply human this journey can be.
Twelve years ago, I carried twins as a surrogate. What started as a joyful and purpose-driven experience later became emotionally overwhelming as my pregnancy progressed. I experienced emotional shifts, unexpected attachment feelings, and difficult moments that I did not have the language or support for at the time. After delivery, I also faced a quiet, heavy postpartum season that I didn’t fully understand. I didn’t know where to turn, how to talk about it, or how to take care of myself as I transitioned back into my own life and identity. That experience changed me. It shaped the therapist I became. And it inspired this program.

Why Surrogates Need Emotional Support

Surrogacy involves:
  • physical demands
  • emotional layers
  • family dynamics
  • identity shifts
  • hormonal changes
  • and a unique form of postpartum that isn’t often acknowledged
Many surrogates feel:
  • proud yet overwhelmed
  • connected yet not sure how to let go
  • strong yet emotionally stretched
  • supported during pregnancy but alone after birth
My goal is to change this narrative.
